What is a State Defense Force?
State Defense Forces, also know as State Guards, are in essence like a National Guard unit that does not have the Federal ties. So unlike the National Guard, which can be called for both state and federal service, federal service being the priority, a State Defense Forces can only be used for state service and its only priority it the well being of the state. The Governor of the state is their only Commander in Chief.
What Does a Defense Force do and why are they needed?
Most current day defense forces are a volunteer force that is primarily used for Emergency Management, they assist in all phases and aspects of Emergency Management. Some states also use their Defense forces for law enforcement purposes in the same way as the National Guard sometimes fill these roles. State Defense forces are trained the same as any military unit, and when established, can take on the role of any missing component during an emergency.
Other ways Missouri can benefit from a Defense Force?
State Defense Forces have also been found to be the missing link in national security.
